FAQ

Are all Bootcamps the same?

Nope. Come see why thousands of people have chosen Bootcamp Geelong and how we differ from the circuit training ‘so called bootcamps’…Our camps encourage fun and social fitness… sure you’ll get pushed but you’ll never have more fun while doing so. Through our camps we’ve been fortunate enough to witness many lifelong friendships, marriages and relationships form as well as some truly mind boggling body transformations. It all depends what you want to get from it. We encourage more than just fitness. Check out our testimonials for more on this…

Tuesday 6am, Thursday 7pm and Saturday 7am. We also run an alternate session on Thursday 6am for anyone who has work commitments or has a reason why they can’t make the pm session.

What happens if I miss a session during the Bootcamp?

Now this is bound to happen at some point during the course so don’t worry. We will make a note of your sessions missed. The camp is a complete course; therefore single sessions missed are not refunded. However if you happen to miss a session, there will be a make-up session option for you each Thursday morning at 6am. Please ensure you notify your instructor if you know in advance you won’t be at a particular Bootcamp session.

What is the information session for?

To go over the program you will be undertaking in detail; injury prevention, the importance of correct footwear, our philosophy behind it, how it all works, nutrition etc. We strongly encourage you to turn up in order to get a clear understanding of what you have just signed on for. As we are developing the program we encourage ALL participants to come along in order to hear about any new information we might have available to you. The Information session will be held on the first Tuesday of the Bootcamp, followed by the Fitness Test on the Saturday morning.

What is the Fitness Test all about?

The Fitness Course is approx 5-8km long with a few obstacles thrown in. The course is designed to mimic everyday movements we all (should) do. You can move through this test at your own pace, some complete it in 20 minutes some take over an hour.

The Fitness Test is essential for 2 reasons;

  1. Your result will determine your placement in a group with people of similar fitness. This factor is the beauty of our camps. When you exercise with people very close to your fitness level you will improve at a rapid rate due to the drag effect. You are never waiting for anyone nor are you miles behind anyone. Attending the test will ensure you kick off the 5 weeks in the correct group from day one.
  2. For you to use as a gauge when you re-do the test after 5 weeks. It’s a great way to assess your progression and finish off the Bootcamp with your entire group.

What else should I be doing before the camp starts?

Get moving! What will inhibit your chance of progress is if you treat the camp as a 5-week quick fix. We’ve had people in the past wait until the day it starts before they decide to do any kind of exercise and stop eating the ‘Tim Tams’, Ice cream and Fried Foods. We’ve had people eat themselves silly, like it is their last supper and actually put on weight before they start the camp!! Not a good idea at all. Your healthy lifestyle should start from today. Weight loss and fitness is a by-product of being healthy, not the other way around. We have, so far ran 31 successful Bootcamps and we often see people who come back after not doing anything for 6 months, a year, 2 years and they return to us worse off than they were the 1st time they came. Now would be a good time to think about treating this as a long-term lifestyle change. A healthy lifestyle is something that needs to be ongoing and one we have helped many, many people achieve.

I am very unfit and have not exercised for a long time; will I be able to do it?

Yes anyone of any fitness level can do our Bootcamps! You will be grouped with participants with a similar level of fitness. We have had participants that have not exercised for years that are transformed physically and mentally from our Bootcamps

What sort of training is involved?

All of the activity is done outdoors and changes every session, no boredom, no mirrors, plenty of friends and fun. We teach clients how to exercise using the environment. All of our participants are taught how to run and use their body properly, to build functional strength and endurance. This course is about true movement. The exercises you will learn you can use anywhere anytime.

What sort of results should I expect?

We have had weight loss of up to 19kg and have increased the fitness level of 100% of participants who complete the course. Your recovery from exercise and muscle definition will also dramatically increase.

I am very fit; will I get any benefits from participating in Bootcamp?

We will give you all the opportunity to test yourself at each and every session. If you are really fit and your fitness test proves this, then welcome to Group 1!

What do I wear during Bootcamp?

We will provide you with our Bootcamp singlet on the information night. Wear something comfortable and weather appropriate, including suitable runners/footwear. Remember we are training outdoors. Please no speedos and cape!

What about shin splints etc?

We recommend that you first go buy a pair of runners that suit your feet, as proper footwear can make all the difference. We also give first-timers a free 1/2 hour massage (with Sports Medicine Massage), as a start and recommend that you keep following up with them.

What else?

The course is designed to be social, fun and challenging. We want for you to push yourself and see what you can achieve. You will soon learn that this course is not just about exercise. Its about friendships, community, fitness and fun.
Ditch all the excuses and make getting fit and healthy your priority for 5 weeks, you will never look back!
